Moscow , 16th July : The 2018 FIFA World Cup was the 21st FIFA World Cup . It took place in Russia from 14 June to 15 July 2018. It was the first world cup to use the VAR ( Video Assistant Referee ) System . All together 32 teams fought for one world cup Unfortunately last champion Germany , heart throve Argentina Brazil and Portugal were unocked out from the world cup . Iceland and Panama made their first appearances at FIFA World Cup .
A total of 64 matches were played in 12 venues across cities . The final took place on 15 July , 2018 at Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow , between France and Crotia . France won the match 4-2 to claim their second world cup title , marking the fourth consecutive title won by a European team . Luka Modric was declared as the best player of the tournament .

AMPHAN TOLLS 84 LIVES AND RAVAGES
Kolkata , 17th May : The deadly tropical cyclonic storm Amphan ( Pronounced as Um – pun ) caused wide spread damage in the coastal districts of Odisha and West Bengal in India and Bangladesh . It was the strongest tropical cyclone to strike the River Ganges Delta since 1999 Odisha super cyclone . The cyclone burst in full fury followed by massive landfalls . The coastal areas like Sundarbans were severely lashed by the ferocious wind and incessant rains . Thousands of trees were uprooted in the gales , electricity and telephone lines brought down and houses flattened .
Though Corona virus restrictions have been hindering emergency , relief works and evacuations , the urnest efforts from the part of Government made nearly 2.5 million people evacuated before the storm . Initial assessments of the damage are being hampered by blocked roads and flooding . The Government assured every assistance possible.

INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATE IN BALLYGUNGE GOVT HIGH SCHOOL .
The Independence day was celebrated in our school on 15th August . All the students were present in the school uniform at 8 a.m. At first the Principal of our school hoisted the national flag in our school play ground which was followed by our national C anthem . After that the Principal delivered a short speech about 9 the importance of Independence and our duty . After that the students of senior classes have done marched past . At last there was a short cultural programme consist of poetry , patriotic songs and a short drama . Some sweets are distributed among the students after completion of the programme .

BLOOD DONATION CAMP IN MANMATH NATH HIGH SCHOOL .
On 26 January , a blood donation camp was held in our school after completion of Republic day celebration . The camp was started at 10:30 am , with the help of blood bank . Students of senior classes came forward to donate the blood . The local councillor paid a visit to our blood donation camp . Dr. Mousumi Roy from SSKM hospital supervised our camp . The collected blood was sent to the blood bank . Egg , Banana , Milk were given to all blood donors along with a certificate . The camp was ended at about 4 p.m.

DEVASTATING FLOOD IN SOUTH BENGAL
Kolkata , July 31 : At least 39 people died and 50 more drowned including 5 children in flood in West Bengal’s several districts like East and West Midnapore , Hoogly , Murshidabad , Burdwan , Nadia , South 24 – Parganas etc. Thousands of people became homeless as a result of flood . Incessant rainfall for seven days caused the overflow of rivers like the Ganga , the Hoogly , the Mayurakhshi , the Damodar etc. Moreover , the release of Water from river dam in Bihar and Jharkhand overflowed the areas adjacent to these two states . The washed away settlements in these districts will take much time to rebuilt . The Chief Minister of West Bengal announced medical and financial help to the victims . The affected had been taken to shelters , dry foods are being distributed among the victims . Relief is coming from all corners of the society . The Governor of West Bengal has mourned the natural calamity .

NEPAL SHOCKED BY QUAKE
Kathmandu , 25 April : Two succesive Earthquakes measuring 7.9 and 6.8 respectively on the Richter scale , spread panic in Nepal including Bihar , West Bengal , Sikkim , Uttar Pradesh and Delhi in India . The epicentre of the earthquake was Pokhra near Kathmandu . The tremor also felt almost in the every corner of India and some parts of China .
Accordingly to reports , the tremor was felt around 11.30 a.m. and it remained more that 30 seconds . As a result , many old buildings in Kathmandu collapsed killing many people . The Dharhara minar which was almost 800 years old completely dashed to the ground and about 700 people died . Almost 10,000 people were killed in several parts of Nepal , more than 50,000 people became homeless . People were much panicked with the aftershocks that jerked the hill country again and again . Experts apprehend that several more trauma may occur in coming future . Relief from all corners of the globe reached the country . President of India Pranab Mukherjee and Prime Minister arendra Modi expressed their grief . Seismologists forecast about such Earthquakes and warn people to be alert .
